Home-based Loneliness, is there a cure?
By: Teena Rose

One of the drawbacks of operating a small, home-based business
is the continuous loneliness caused from operating the
business alone. It can be difficult being the only instrument
player in a marching band, but since more and more individuals
are seeking the freedom of working from home, solitude is
becoming a deeper problem for some.

It’s sometimes recommended that individuals who will find it
difficult working from home should avoid such a set up; but
knowing ways to avoid “home-alone blues” can certainly deter
them and give you an atmosphere that you can prosper in.

A common error that home-based professionals make is to avoid
taking breaks and downtime. Remember the reasons you gave
your family for starting a home business; one was probably to
have a more flexible schedule that allowed you to attend
school functions or take an afternoon off. Prospering small
businesses experience a large degree of burden, so operators
can find it difficult to take much-needed R and R within such
a demanding daily schedule. Make the time to step away from
your desk, even if just for a few minutes several times
throughout the day, or turn on the television to relieve your
brain from thinking. Taking short or impulsive breaks
throughout the day will give you time to rest and regroup
before starting your workday again.

Find another small business professional who you can talk to
on the phone, by instant message, and can solicit advice from
when the occasion arises. Having an ally — a person who is
also in the trenches dealing with everyday business — can
provide a great support system. Family members and friends
can be a good cheering section on the sideline, but they
generally lack the information needed to advise on topics such
as handling returned checks or advertising. It’s better to
seek the assistance of someone who has dealt with these
problems and can give solid guidance.

Stepping away from your desk can be great, but getting in your
car and driving can be much greater. When you reported to a
boss, how often were you able to stop and browse at the local
department store or pick up a gallon of milk before returning
to the office? Working for yourself means that you should
have certain freedoms. If your current home business schedule
doesn’t allow for such luxuries, consider making some
structural changes to your business. You started your
business so you could work less and make more money, right?

Scheduling meetings or lunch appointments will help break up
your week and keep it from being monotonous and boring. Take
the initiative by inviting a family member, business
acquaintance, or prospect to a nice lunch that will give you
face-to-face interaction. Don’t be afraid to ask a business
associate for feedback on handling select problems or to get
how-to advice. Remember, free advice can go a long way with
the objective of freeing up for time for more important things
like goofing off.

Taking breaks, seeking a business friend and mentor, or
splitting up your days with meetings and appointments can be a
perfect cure for home-based loneliness. Incorporate personal
time whenever possible, and don’t be afraid to let an
answering machine do its job. Think of it as “me time” that
will make you more productive and avoid that dreaded burnout.

Craft Tip:
I guess a pie crust is a craft, and many are scared to
make one:

Here are some top tips for a great crust.

Use ICE water
Don't over mix. Get it into clump then form it into
a disk (gently) then let it relax in the refrigerator for about
a half an hour before rolling it out.
You'll be amazed.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Recipe:
~~~~~~~~
Sometimes we are in a hurry and need to cook up
something fast. This was always a hit with my kids.

Beef Stroganoff

1 pound hamburger
1/2 med onion (or omit)
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 cup sour cream.

Brown Hamburger and onion. Dump the grease!
Add soup, then when hot, add sour cream.

If it is too thick, add a little water, or some milk.

Serve on rice, or toast, or even potatoes.
It's filling. Add a salad, or a vegetable, and you
can have dinner in less than 15 minutes.

Weight Loss Tip:
~~~~~~~~~~~~
One tip to losing weight is choose a diet and
life style that you can live with forever. First, you
lose weight, so it is of course, more strict, then you
would adjust that living style to include more food,
yet maintain your loss.
Some people want to purchase pills. You can order
pills on line. I will warn you, they really give you a buzz
and you may get a lot of house work done. If, you
have medical problems, you would not want to take these
pills. http://www.hostswan.com/usarx
~~~~~~~~~~~
Safety Tip:
Get helmets, knee pads and elbow pads for your kids
when they ride bikes.
If you own a trampoline and you let neighbors use it,
set up a paper for them to sign giving permission and that
you are not liable for any injuries.

~~~~~~~~~~~
Parent Tip:
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Try not to have too many confrontations with your kids,
but when you do, NEVER lose.
It's like I tell my friends and used this method with my
own kids. If you give an order, be prepared to make them
carry out your order. If you are not going to "make" them
follow through, don't give the order.

i.e. You want the kids to pick up their toys. But, you don't
want to deal with trying to make them do it. Don't set yourself
up for failure. Don't tell them to pick up the toys unless you
are prepared to follow up and make sure they do what you
have told them to do. Otherwise, you just slide down and
lose the respect from your children and they will listen
less and less to you.

Household Tip:
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Flies. My favorite creatures. NOT....
Last night ten flies landed on my ceiling. I nicely took
my vacuum cleaner and sucked each one up to their
dusty grave. Cruel, but, flies just drive me nuts.
If you have fruit flies... One way to get them in one area
is put out a bowl of applecider covered slightly with
plastic wrap ... they will get into the holes, but don't get
out very well.
This is flea season where I live. You can dust your animals
with brewers yeast (get it at drugstore) and you can put a
teaspoon or so mixed into their food, this kills fleas.
(THIS is not baker's yeast, do not get it confused)
I mix one cup soy milk, one heaping teaspoon of brewer's
yeast and protein powder everyday. Then I drink it.
Don't like the flavor? Plug your nose and bottoms up.
It is rich in vitamin B which will make your urine more
yellow. It helps repair your liver too.
(I feel like the terminator today :))
Car Tip -
Keep suckers out of your child's mouth in cars.
It's very dangerous.
If you have some rust on your fender, take some
aluminum foil, ball it up and rub it away.
Tasteful Joke
~~~~~~~~~~~~
A young businessman had just started his own firm.
He'd rented a beautiful office and had it furnished
with antiques. Sitting there, he saw a man come
into the outer office. Wishing to appear busy, the
businessman picked up the phone and started to
pretend he had a big deal working. He threw huge
figures around and made giant commitments.

Finally, he hung up and asked the visitor, "May I
help you?" The man said, "Sure. I've come to install
the phone!"

CANDYWRAPPER is new and improved. It's really
cool. If you have the product, read your instruction
letter and go and download your new program for free.
If you do not have your letter with your CD... write
Ryan at ryan@net-marketers.com
Let him know the approximate time you purchased the
software and he will look you up.

If you don't have this wonderful creation, I ask that you
go through my link at www.candykit.com as I am an affiliate
to this product.
Also, if you are not an affiliate, consider making money
telling others how to get this fun program. The new page
has an affiliate link on the side, and it pays two tier.
*What does two tier mean?*
It means that if you sign up as an affiliate under me, then
you sell something, I make money, too. If someone affiliates
using your link, then they sell something, you make money.
It is not a big payout, mind you, however, it adds up and
the product sells very well. Now in CD or instant download.

~~~~
If you don't have your own website yet, consider getting
one, it is not all that expensive or hard to learn, and it can
be a whole lot of fun. Some people start a genealogy site,
a work at home site, pictures of their kids or even a site
for their hobbies.
If this interests you, let me know.
