Working at Home with Kids - Fun Huh?
By: Teresa King
Working at home is something you do when you have kids period.
Adding a real "job" to your workload can be a burden.
Kids need attention. You love them and you want to get your
work done. You feel torn between being a good parent and
creating
an income. You can do both.
What can you do?
First, you know that children need at least 1/2 hour of quality
time with you, per child per day. Yes, you spend time with your
children, you cook, pick up after them, discipline them and
want
to turn them into responsible adults. It's the responsibility
you took on when you decided to have them.
But when a child gets on schedule for that "special" time it
makes the time that when you are busy, easier for them to
settle
down and keep occupied on their own.
When you are trying to get some work done so you can
help keep a roof over their heads, they need to know that you
that there is time for them, and time for you. By giving them
a set time where you give them quality time, they need to learn
that they earn that time. They earn that time by helping.
Children love to help. Giving them small tasks and giving them
big pats teaches your child they are useful and appreciated
and builds their self-esteem. It also makes them feel part
of something special. They can feel like they are an important
part of the family.
If you have a baby that needs feeding, changing, and special
attention, you will need to work it out so that their napping
time is the time that you can put more concentration in your
work time. You can also schedule them to an earlier bedtime so
that you are not so groggy doing what needs to be done that it
becomes a chore rather than a pleasure for creating your own
in home business.
When you have a toddler, he/she can be taught to help you, and
to learn how to play on their own. You can also trade
babysitting
time with a neighbor who has children where they take yours for
two hours one day, and you take theirs two hours each day.
You can also utilize a teenager. Teenagers are full of energy
and are great companions for your young ones. You can hire one
to come in for a couple of hours after school so you can get
things done, too.
Don't forget grandparents. Many grandparents would love to
take your kids for few hours at no charge per week.
When you find yourself frazzled and impatient, don't take it
out on your child. Get some in home help, or stop what you
are doing, and take them to do something physical to help them
burn energy. If you find that you have a child that just loves
to interrupt your work, and "appears" to know exactly when to
act up, you need to teach that child it is not acceptable and
will not be rewarded. In fact, misbehavior can easily be
handled
by knowing what your child loves to do best.
If the child has a favorite bedtime story, or a cartoon, or
a friend that comes over, then if they act up, those privileges
will be taken away.
The world is not going to fall apart if you take
time to find out what is going on. Most kids who "act up"
know they can "rule" you. You must stay consistent with them to
keep them from controlling your time. They are not the boss.
When a young child seems out of hand, check the important
things.
Are they hungry, thirsty, or tired. These are the three things
that make a child not their usual cheerful selves.
Small children can put paper in the waste basket, they can put
things into the garbage, they can carry their clothes to their
room. They can dust with a little sock on their hand in corners
that you can't easily reach. Small children can help set the
table, and they can even wipe up their own spills and put away
their toys. Give them responsibility and you will find your
child far more compliant than you ever dreamed could happen.
Consistency is the total key to making your life easier. And,
believe it or not, your child is happier with rules and in the
knowing that if he/she does this/that, then this/that WILL
happen. Make it so, and your life will be so much easier.

Craft Tip:
Like Quilting? There are a lot of free patterns
at this cute site.

Weight Loss Tip:
~~~~~~~~~~~~
(Don't you just love how I give out a sizzling
recipe then give you a weight loss tip? :))
Remember, all things in moderation. Sometimes, we
eat because we are bored. Many times we eat because
we don't know we are thirsty. When you catch yourself
eating or starting to look at the refrigerator when
you really are not hungry, give it the ten minute
test.
Say to yourself, "I can make it ten minutes," and meanwhile
start doing another activity. A walk, talking on the phone
to a friend, write a letter, send an email.
Hmmm, make a no food rule at your computer is
an excellent tip!
"Announcing eChallengers for the eChallenged." This is a
brand new club where I have partnered with three others
that provides hosting, a list manager and a lot of
hand-holding so that you can learn so many things to
use your computer for more than just a fun toy.
You can get started using your spare time to make spare
dollars. Get started the right way with someone you trust.
Safety Tip:
Take a first aid class, or a CPR class.
What does your babysitter know about first aid?
Think about it.
(I had a babysitter many years ago during an earthquake.
My babysitter took my kids outside. Fortunately, they
were safe, and no telephone wires fell on them.)
Just something for you to maybe ask your babysitter, a few
questions that you may think they MUST know, but somehow
missed their lessons. Better safe than sorry.
Do they know what to do with choking?
Write up a babysitter test and have your babysitter
take it.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Parent Tip:
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Teach your kids about washing their hands in public
bathrooms. They should use the toilet covers offered.
If no covers, they should use the toilet tissue and
make a cover. When washing their hands, wash them well,
dry them and don't use the door handles with their clean
hands when leaving. Many people don't wash their hands,
they go straight from the toilet to that DOOR.
Household Tip:
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Vinegar and baking soda make a great sink drain-o.

Car Tip
~~~~~~~~
Leather seats are plush... that is until they crack
because you leave them in the sun. Keep your car out
of the sun as much as possible.
~~~~~~~~
Marriage Tip?
~~~~~~~~~
Put a surprise note in your spouse's lunchbox, or if he/she
does not take a lunch, sneak a note in his/her pocket.
Today's Joke
Neither a Borrower or Lender Be
My next-door neighbor and I frequently borrow things from
each other. Not long ago, when I requested his ladder, he
told me he had loaned it to his son. Recalling a saying my
grandmother used to repeat, I recited, "You should never lend
anything to your kids, because you will never get it back."
With that, he responded, "Well, it's not even my ladder.
It's my dad's."
Oh, Did you hear about the new Divorced Barbie Doll?
She comes with all of Ken's accessories.
