cheapest candy to wrap for parade
« on: September 20, 2009, 01:54:29 PM »
I have a realtor who's son is going to be in a parade and she's wanting wrapped candy for advertisement. I need to know the cheapest thing possible as she is going to need quite a few.

what about the mint toppers? Then you buy the bag of lifesavers mint or fruit flavored.

I would agree...lifesavers are probably cheapest and easiest...next would probaby be smarties ??
and they both have a good "shelf life" and won't melt  :)

Life savers or starlite mints with mint toppers.. You can't get a lot on them but you should be able to get her name on one side and the company name on the other.  patti

Same here. Sometimes this time of year you can find a big bag of kiddie mix (bubble gum, jaw breakers etc) that comes wrapped like the mints. You could do toppers on those also.

The care facility my Mom is in were in a parade a couple of months ago. They are also on a tight budget. I did the mint toppers, which I agree are probably the cheapest but I also did the sucker cards (got the suckers at the dollar store) and I did coloring pages (they were the biggest hit with the kids) with the care facility logo/theme in the top corner.

I am all over cheap....here is a good sucker place!

http://www.candycreek.com/Classic_10_Fruit_Flavors_Pops-lollipops.html

I would not make sucker cards, parades minimally you have 500-1000 pieces of candy!  In one parade we do in a large city in IL we purchase over 10,000 pieces and run out before we are at the end...so how big is the parade for this clietn?  One time (before I knew about WC)  I printed a bunch of stickers....was easier to slap them on quickly and inexpensive....time and money, that is what this is all about!  LOL

Thank you all for your input. I was thinking mints or lifesavers, but completely spaced out the toppers I was thinking books. LOL! That will be great. I was also thinking suckers, but you do have a point it's gonna cost more. I figure I'll make up and price a couple different things to her and see what she likes.

I believe the cheapest thing for something like a parade would be peppermint hard candies. Youo can buy very reasonable at Sam's and use as mint toppers.

before I would offer choices I would find out how many they are thinking?  Are you willing to make 500-1000 mint toppers?  When you could print stickers and put them on lifesavers or suckers?

Making 100 is daunting enough but to cut our 500 plus toppers, fold, staple, etc.  That is alot....

Just a thought!  Stickers can go on hard candy, etc.

If you still want to do toppers - you can still use stickers --- just put bottom half on one side of candy - fold in half and there you have it --- no glue, staples, cutting, etc.  you can print on the labels and just attach --- I think that would be easy enough.

Can any of you give me prics on mint toppers and suckers? I did a search, but that's not working. I called her and she's wanting something that the smaller children won't choke on.

Love the sticker idea and, yes, those starlight mints (and the kind they give away at Sonic) scare me, I never give them to my grandchildren.  Definitely an adult hard candy.  There's a photo of one of my mint toppers below.
