Rulers are notched at 1/16ths and Wrapcandy rulers are notched at 1/10ths.  There might be a formula but I just count the notches.  Half an inch on a ruler is at the 8th notch, in wc it would be 5 notches.   Hope that helps.

You divide the bottom number of the fraction into the top.
Example 5 1/2 = 5.500, 6 7/8 = 6.875, 4 3/4 = 4.750

OMG thank you!  Sometimes I feel very uneducated!  This was just one of many things I've been struggling with.

If you shop around, you can probably find a ruler/measuring tape with 1/10" marks on it. I did. Although I've now lost it.

I did find ( after much hunting) a mathamatical device that among other things, it had one side that had a ruler that was in 10ths. So I photocopied it onto transparency and trimmed so now I have a very flexible see through ruler in 10ths that actually bends around tins and things. best thing ever!
