How do you set up your d/l files...............

I am getting quite a few dl's now, and I have a question for you.

When you dl a set ~ where do you put it?   I have a folder for sets, and I have a folder for zip files.  

Is this how you do it, or do you put the soe's in the soe file, the graphic in the graphics file etc?   Just wondering how everyone else did it, because if I'm looking for an soe, there are some in those other files, and I don't tend to check there, I kinda forget there are lots of different things in those files.

I have all of my files broken down by occasion or theme. I have a folder for birthdays, weddings, etc..

When I download something, I make a new folder and call it something like this:

dragonflyset.knotheadsrus.RU (or MPF - Members Protected Forum)
or
weddingminis.hearts.GB (General Business)

I have my view thing set to "thumbnails", so I can see jpgs or pngs in the folder.

I have a file for backgrounds, one for borders, etc.

When I name a file, I don't use the member numbers. I always use their screen name.

It just makes it easier for me to find things. If I'm only downloading an SOE or a mini, I don't make a new folder for it. I just drop it into whichever category it fits in. You should see all of the categories I have, but it works for me. I don't have to go to do a long search that way.

Thanks Deb.  I have a ton of categories also.   I didn't do mine in themes or occasions, I did them in like soe, mini, graphics, backgrounds, etc.  But, it works really well, except for the zips and the sets.  I might break them down and load them into the categories, and leave them in the original file also.  That would work too.

And, you could have the same thing in several files.  Guess I could put the birthday soe's, etc. in a new file called birthdays ~ I'll do that in my spare time.  LOL   LOL   Like I have any of that!!   :)

I like the thumbnails too, but am having trouble with it.  I will do thumbnails, but I have to change it from list to thmnls, and as soon as I close it, it goes back to list, and every time I open it, I have to change it back to thumbnails.  I have checked my settings and thumbnails is checked, so, I don't know what is going on.

I also use their screen name, and not that long number.

Thanks for the information.... I haven't had time to arrange my folders yet. Right now I have three folders graphics, backgrounds and candy wrappers. It does take me a while to find things, I am usually VERY organized but I have four children and work full time I imagine this will take me several hours to do.

Yes, it will.   If you are just getting started, it would be to your advantage to do it now, before you have so many.  It is time consuming, but, if you start from the beginning, it is so much better.

I know what you mean about being busy.  There just aren't enough hours in the day for me.  Good Luck.

I actually save files in a folder that has the designer's name on it. From there, I copy the image/design/etc. to another folder. I organize these folders by theme (Baby, Birthday...Wedding, etc.). I keep matching pieces for sets in the same folder within the theme folder. I have folders inside of folders, inside of folders....you get the idea...lol.

I tried doing it by template type (SOE, Gallon, etc.), but then found it difficult to get all the matching pieces (or even knowing which pieces there were in the set) - even by doing a search. Very confusing, and time-consuming experience for me.

When I am searching for an image or design, I look in the folders by theme (Baby, Birthday...Wedding, etc.). If I know the name of the design, I can do a quick(er) search. I do have a catch-all folder as well...for things that don't quite fit into a particular theme.

If I need to know who made the image/design, I do a search for the name of the design, and it will show up in the list as being in their folder...I don't even have to actually open the folder.

So, I actually have two of everything...and, since I back up onto an external hard drive, I essentially have 4 of each image/design.

Hi everyone. I keep my items in folders by type (ie, SOE, SCE, Mini, Gallon, Quart, etc.) In each of those folder are more folders that break it down like Birthday, Easter, Baby, Father's Day and so on. When I DL an item I will name it bunny face gal front_NAME OF PERSON and if it's part of a set then I'll add _set at the end. That helps me.

You can change the way you view your files in explore.  When you open up Exlpore, click on the folder you want to view as thumbnails and then change the view to thumbnails. Then, while that folder is still highlighted, go up to "Tools" at the top and choose Folder Options. Click on the tab at the top labeled "View" and pick the options you want it to apply. :0>
