How proud I am today...please share with me
« on: July 11, 2012, 04:28:55 PM »
This Morning I watched my husband and his veteran friends post colors and then they were all awarded these pins to honor them for their service and they recognize each one of them . They have spent today getting ready for the arrival of the traveling Vietnam Wall to arrive. This town of Tiffin, Ohio population of about 18000 did an amazing turnout for this event, people were lined mile after mile to watch this procession enter town. They were escorted by 3 sheriff cars and police and then the truck which carried the wall, they were followed...are you ready? by over 10,000 motorcycles. It was estimated that it would be at least that many but up to maybe 15,000, not sure how many there were, wow what a site as bike after bike carrying our flag and POW flags traveled on route to their destination. As I stood next to my husband to watch this I watched him stand as the wall went by and I saw a tear fall down his face...yes this is so dear to him. He served in Vietnam in 68-69 and again in 73 and 74, he volunteered for both tours. We left there and followed the bike to where they were gathered and I could hardly believe my eyes . People everywhere with flags and shouting God Bless America. Thousand and thousands of bikes everywhere you looked and all of this to honor those men who were sneered at when they came home. Tiffin Ohio you did the Veterans proud today. As we passed the site with the flag flying high I turned to my husband and started to say something to him but the tears were flowing hard this time....this big guy that I have never seen cry.....
I just want everyone to know that today I stand beside my best friend and husband, Retired Sergeant Major Michael R Remsberg and I thank him for his 30 years of service. This land is free because of him and so many others who did what they knew they needed to do to keep us safe and free.
Thank you Michael and thank you every Veteran and military person. We do care and we do applaud you.
The price of freedom is not free.....

That is so inspiring.  I could see it as you described it and I'm very proud of your husband and his friends, too.  I'm so happy that there was a big turnout for it.

You described the ceremony so beautifully .I am so choked up with emotion right now.  I can't imagine what it was like today.  I am so proud of 'Retired Sergeant Major Michael R Remsberg'.  Please thank him from me, for his 30 years of serving our country!  You should be proud!

My husband served in Vietnam as a Marine in 68-69!  He is very involved with the Veteran's Group in our home town!  Because of him, our children go to every Memorial Day Parade and Veteran's Day Parade to thank all the vets for their service.
I am more proud of him today than I was back then.
Congratulations to your husband ~ we all owe them our gratitude!

Wow, yes, I got cold chills and tears reading this too, Mary Ann.  I am so proud of all of our service people, past and present.  Give him a hug for me, and, tell him I thank him for his service.

Yesterday, I went to the dermatologist, and we were chatting.  He had a certificate on his wall for 1000 hours of Chinook heliocopter service in VietNam, recognizing his skill and experience in that helicopter.  So, I remarked about it, and, I thanked him for his time in Viet Nam.  He was filling out some paper work, and, immediately looked up at me, almost like he was startled.  I told him how much I appreciate his serving his country, etc.  He went on to say that was so nice to hear, because after troops came home from V N, they were shunned, screamed at that they were baby killers etc.   How unfair that was.   I so appreciate every one of our troops.  Coming up on August 4th, it is the anniversary of when my best friend's son was killed in Iraq.   August 4, 2008.

I have great respect for all our troops, present, past, and ones who have given their lives for me and all people of our wonderful country.

Thank you for sharing this Mary Ann! It IS so inspiring and truly shows the appreciation that most have for the sacrifices that our military has made and continues to make for our freedom. My husbands grandfather passed away last week. He was 96 and served in WWII . The service was so moving with the tribute from the military. Also, I got to spend time with his brother in law. He was a prisoner of war for nearly 3 years. How many of us can even imagine this???? My children are only 3 and 5 , but I did explain to them in terms they could understand.. without these men and women they may not be able to go to school or church... Please extend my gratitude to your husband. God Bless America!
