Laminate pencil cards ? FINISHED PICTURE ADDED....
« on: December 18, 2010, 06:47:02 AM »
Do you laminate your pencil cards?  I just made 6 for grandchildren and nephews.  I think I want to laminate them.  (I haven't made very many, but, I do think I laminated the ones I made before)   Then, is it hard to cut the slits after it's laminated?     I think I remember cutting the slits, and, ruining the card. (because it tore off the side of the card)   I put the slits in to the middle further, so, maybe that will help.

Also, any suggestions cutting the slits?  What do you use?  I think I cut them with my X-Acto knife before.

Any suggestions most appreciated.  :)

Editing to add - they are laminated, just finished them, they look great - now to cut the slits.......................

Hi Nancy...I laminate my pencil cards and then just put a little bit of double-sided tape on the pencil to attach to the side of the card.

Wow, never thought of that.  Next time I will not print the slits.

I am thinking, since I already have the slits printed on there, maybe I can just puncture the 4 ends of the slits, then, wire the pencil on with a tie wrap, in a criss cross fashion.  I think they might stay on that way.....  ??

Sounds like a good idea to me - since you already did the pencils with the slits.  :)

I've never laminated, but I would think it would make the slits really hard to cut (I find them hard enough without the laminating!). Let us know how you make out.

I like your idea Karen of laminating and then sticking the pencil on. You could use the little glue dots to attach the pencil too.

OK, they are done.  They turned out pretty good.

Here's a picture of the finished products.  Not a very good picture, but, the best I could do without taking individual ones - hey, I guess I could have done that, then, put them in a 'none' red box, and, maybe could have seen them better.  I may try that.
But, for now, here's this picture.
Left click on the picture, and, it enlarges, and you can see the detail much better.  :)

I have done it several ways.

I would rather laminate if they are to keep the card as a bookmark.. otherwise it doesn't matter.

I prefer to "punch little holes in them at the lines" , when I make mine I do not put the line in or clip a matching color to cover it up if I can. Then I use wire ties or ribbon to secure the pencil. I do not use tape or sticky dots since with the the Mylar (shiny pencils the coating comes off).
