Mini book question....
« on: May 27, 2011, 10:04:43 AM »
Hiya ladies...
I want to do some mini book bibles for my grandangel's christening and I was just curious what paper you use for them?  I'm using the cwr. template by drucila.  I printed one on 24 lb bright white paper (Staples brand) and even though it's a little thicker then standard printer paper, the black bible part ripples a little from the ink (have I mentioned I hate my new Canon printer?  lol)  Anyway...I was wondering if card stock is too thick to handle the folds.  Also...I want to put little ribbons in them (like a page marker)...should I stick with red??  The minis inside will be pink & gold tones.  I appreciate any input...thanks!

I use glossy or matte photo paper, or you could use card stock, no its not to thick to score. As for the ribbon if you have pink or gold id use that..the ribbon in my bible is gold not red.

...I think the cardstock is too stiff for the ones I make.....I use presentation paper ....but I use the Bible that Ellis shared  that uses 2 minis for it ...so it doesnt fold right with the cardstock ... I think some of the others might be okay to use cardstock or even photo paper. And as Maxluv mentioned it scores good ....
I also think it varies from printer to prionter as to how a printer prints the ink eaters ...some printers automatically detect the type of paper you ahave inserted in your printer and will adjust the printing process accordingly ....

You could get the template and  try making white Bibles .....easier on the ink and wouldnt ripple with the extra ink ~

there are a couple different versions of the Bibles out there on the forum

I will see if I can find the links to the Bible shares for you to look through for information and possible options !!

I would use photo paper also. I use hp everyday photopaper but now they have changes their weight. Here in Greece it used to be 170 gsm's (sorry I haven't found a way to convert that) and now apparently hp has made them 130 gsm or 230. The 230 would be too thick, the 130 would be ok for wrappers. Try and find a medium weight photo paper

I just used my regular paper -- nothing fancy --- cardstock definitely too think --
I have a canon as well -- can you change to "standard" printing -- maybe it's on "best" and it's putting too much ink out.
Just a thought!

Thank you everyone for the replies.

Paula...I tried to make a white one but without any shading it looks very flat and unfinished.  Not sure how to explain what I mean.

Marie...I originally had it set on standard print it seems like everything on this printer looks light or a little faded, so I set it on high quality print.  Both settings rippled the paper when I used the thicker Staples paper.  I have some Canon matte photo paper I might try.

sure... I understand what you mean ... that makes senseand is a good thing to point out !! I guess it probably would need a lightly textured background and maybe just slightly off-white or pale ivory in color .
