Opinions on Afghanistan Paint Can
« on: September 06, 2010, 01:38:38 PM »
Here is a quart front and back I made for a customer who has a military pen pal that is in Afghanistan.  She will fill it with hard candies to send to him.  Opinions?   I made this to wrap around the can and when they are joined at the sides for overlap they will complete the "circle" around the can.  I did not post the lid....it is just camouflage anyway.

What do ya'll think?

I agree with the others.  It's great!!  I personally wouldn't change a thing, but I'm not her, LOL.  I really think she'll love it though.

If you decide to sell the design, please let me know.  We have a friend in Afghanistan and would love to send this to him.  If you don't, I totally understand though!

Do you know what the ribbons mean, and are they something that the pen pal has?  Military people are very touchy about the ribbons - and deservedly so.  Other than that, it's a wonderful can.

Katie, that is the Afghanistan Campaign Medal.

The Afghanistan Campaign Medal became available for general distribution in June 2005. The decoration is awarded to any member of the U.S. military who has performed duty within the borders of Afghanistan (or its airspace) for a period of thirty consecutive days or sixty non-consecutive days. The medal is retroactive to October 24, 2001 and is active until a date to be determined. Personnel who have been engaged in combat with an enemy force, or personnel who have been wounded in combat within Afghanistan, may receive the Afghanistan Campaign Medal regardless of the number of days spent within the country. The medal is also awarded posthumously to any service member who dies in the line of duty within Afghanistan, including from non-combat injuries such as accidents and mishaps.

Katie,

The lapel pin ribbon I made using the military issued colors for the Afghanistan War Campaign....so I think it will be just fine.  The medal is for anyone who has served in the campaign and he is rightfully due the medal.  I made the top portion of the medal using vector shapes and then added the bottom bronze part that is issued by the military. I have made many military cans in the past.  I always make sure to check for several things.  For example: I have used specific motto's for specific platoons and colors for specific platoons as well.  I did many for Iraq a few years ago I actually e-mailed the USO for that location and asked for information.

And, she just e-mailed me.  She loves it.  Thank goodness!  LOL  So, I will be printing it tomorrow and getting it all put together for her so she can send her care package out on Saturday.  Thanks all for your thoughts!

Thanks Bobbi, but I didn't mean the medal.  I mean the bars at the bottom of the can.  Given enough time, chests will be full of these.

I know.  The ribbon at the bottom of the cans is the ribbon, for the medal.  Sorry I didn't mention that.  Each medal comes with a matching ribbon for when they don't wear their medals.

Wow, this design is simply STUNNING.  I'm fascinated with military services and learned a lot today.  Thank you Rhonda and I find it hard anyone would not absolutely love this design.  Bobbi, thanks for sharing your knowledge.
