Author Topic: new computer downloaded program now can't open any old cwr files (Read 471 times)

I just got a new computer. It has windows 7 64 bit. I've downloaded 7.1 pro again. The problem is that I'm not able to open any of my previous files that are in the cwr format. The message says that the file is blank or corrupted and anything you've downloaded from the forum, etc. turn off firewall This message comes up with files I haven't downloaded from forum. Please help me open these files. I'm tyring to get into gear to start planning for my craft shows. I don't want to have to go back to my old computer. The new one is so much faster and nicer. Thanks

You may have had 7.3 Pro on the old one? This is most likely why you can't open your cwr's. 7.3 Pro opens all but 7.1 doesn't open 7.3 templates...

7.1 Pro is what you need...the full version. Here is the link to download and install the 7.3 for your 64bit system:

7.3 Pro Update (Use correct version for your system)
And only install after you fully installed the 7.1 Pro version.
If unsure, click Start/Control Panel then Systems and it will show you there what you have.
For Vista or Windows 64 bit systems
Strongly suggested: that if you have 64 bit Vista or Windows7 64 bit please

Thanks Lee. I want to be sure I understand. I didn't see a link for the 7.1. So download 7.1 and then upgrade to 7.3. My old computer had the highest version and it was pro for sure. Can you send me the link one more time. Thanks so much for the quick reply. My old computer was so old the harddrive was full and I couldn't even install updated printer drivers. The two programs I use the most are Wrap Candy and Paint Shop Pro.

Your 7.1 is in your member page: http://www.wrapcandy.com/art/member.php Install that then follow with the 7.3 Pro link I replied with...

Also, try using open (instead of double0clicking directly on the file that doesn't open) and clicking on the older wc files. If they do open, just rename them or add a number or letter at the end. If you have the new version, it will save them in that format so you won't have problems with them again.

Thanks Lee. I got it installed. New question. My desktop shows two versions now. The 7.1 and the version number Ryan mentioned in his post. Do I have to keep the 7.1 version or did I do something wrong?

If you are using Windows7, yes, you will have both versions. Use the 7.3 one. Don't delete it. I don't know why this is but it appears to be a Windows7 thing.

okay. I'll just ignore it. Just grateful to have the program up and running on new computer. So much faster than my old one. Made sure this time when I got this one that I got the fastest and biggest hard drive I could afford. So loving it. Thanks again for the help. By day I'm an attorney and doing the candy wrapping is my outlet for something creative and fun. if I make a little cash too then that's a bonus. I've missed the forum. Will have to see what great things I've missed since i've been away. I was a forum junkie two years ago.
