Error Opening Old Files ~ ATTACHED EXAMPLE 12/21 ~ wto

I just upgraded to an HP 64bit, I can open wrap candy and I even was able to open up the lifesaver Christmas wrappers Ryan shared.  But when I go to open older files I have on my computer I get this error, what does it mean and what do I need to do?

I think I figured out the first error, but for the life of me can't figure out the second error.  It seems to happen with older files.

The second error message is the one we get when the files are very old, or are from the old forum and are corrupt. If you have the latest version of wc (7.3-pro) try opening them the following way. If it doesn't work, then the file can't be opened.

Instead of double clicking on the file, open your wc program and instead of pressing file and new, press file and open. Go to where the file is saved (make sure it isn't in the wc program itself) and click on it and then open.

Not all old shares open this way, but some do. Also, if shares have been made in 7.3 but we have let's say 7.1 we can't see the files either. best solutionis to upgrade to latest versions.
Chell, this advice isn't just for you (as I know you are an excellent designer and computer savvy), but for others having this problem too.
If you do manage to open the file, resave it with another name (or just add a 1 after the title) it should then open as it is saved in the latest version of wc program that way.

Michelle, are these files you saved recently or files saved from back when ??
if they were saved recently then it might be that they are corrupt from one of the froum crashes.......if they were saved from earlier then I dont have aclue what to tell you ....I have never seen a file from 2004 though ...the oldest I have is 2005
If I saved a file previous to November 2008 I can open it, but if it is something I snagged after the forum crash of Late 2008 and then again February 2009 then I cant open them  either.

I can't open it either, Michelle.  There are a lot of .cwr files that became corrupt and just will not open.  If the person is still available that posted it, maybe they would be able to e-mail the file to you.  In most cases, that's about your only option.

Lately, everything saves as index.php I tried changing yours but it doesn't work...it keeps coming back cannot open php files. It won't let me open as a cwr. No clue...

I can open it.  I am assuming you are using 7.3 which is why you cannot open some of the older files.  I have resaved it for you and you should now be able to open it.  (Hint, I run both versions for this very reason)

thanks for the info Ryan ..... good to know !! I have them both on my computer....never gave it a thought to try opening it with the older version...however it does make sense now that you pointed it out!

Yes, and if you open it with 7.1 (this was a (version 6 file) and resave it.  You can then open it with 7.3
