Plane crashes into residential area in Congo; 25 d

KINSHASA, Congo (AP) — A cargo plane smashed into a residential neighborhood in Congo's capital just after take off from the international airport Thursday, killing at least 25 people and engulfing homes in flames.

LONDON (AP) — Former Pakistani Premier Benazir Bhutto said Thursday she expects to reach an agreement on a democratic transition once President Gen. Pervez Musharraf's government declares an amnesty dropping corruption cases against her and other politicians.

Emerging from the darkness of a gold mine where they had been trapped a mile underground for more than a day, 3,000 South African miners told tales Thursday of the cramped, terrifying conditions they had faced.

Three people have been killed after Typhoon Lekima lashed into central Vietnam en route to neighbouring Laos.
It whipped up winds of 80 miles an hour and destroyed more than 70,000 homes. Three people drowned, including a 13-year-old boy who was trying to anchor his family's boat during the storm.
