How to Make a Mintbook (Matchbbook) Cover

By Lee Siefert www.rogerwrapit.com

Materials:

Inkjet or Laser Printer
Plain or Glossy Cardstock or medium weight paper
Wrap Candy Software
Pack of matches as a visual aid (only if needed)
Some type of cutting instrument or sharp scissors
Expired Credit card for ease in folding or a scoring tool
Bag of Lifesaver Individual Mints or Fruit flavor
Optional colored standard staples

Of all the favors, this one is the most unique as there are three or more ways of making this little mintbook or matchbook favor. Both names mean one and the same,
as it can hold a Lifesaver individual wrapped mint or
other candy and looks like a matchbook.

The size of this favor and direction of your graphics and text is totally up to you and the look that you want. Ideas are limitless and it all depends on your creativity.

Just for reference, I use the term Default here as Wrap Candy’s dimension for the matchbook favor label. And Narrow as my modified dimensions and is a custom made label and size.

Default mintbook/matchbook label size in inches:
Width - 2.00
Height - 5.00

Narrow mintbook/matchbook label size in inches:
Width - 1.55
Height - 5.00

Lines are left in all the pictures, to give you a visual idea of where they end up, after folding.

Step One:
Fold bottom flap inward ½ in and crease with your finger, or the handle of scissors. You can use the barcode of a credit card as a guide and pinch the edge against the card. This is your first folded edge.

Step Two:
Fold top edge over toward front flap and crease the top. If using a credit card, wrap the mintbook around and pinch against the card. This is your second folded edge.

Step Three:
Extend the front tip to meet with the edge of the front flap, and crease again. This is your third folded edge.

The last two creases on the top gives you a perfect ¼ in folded top which can be left blank, text added or a area to add your contact info.

Step Four:
With either a standard stapler or a mini Tot Swingline
stapler, attach the individual Lifesaver mint to the inside of the flap. Try to get the candy pushed up to the top of the cello wrapper giving you enough of the wrapper to stick inside the flap. Staple halfway on the flap and
centered.

Step Five:
Your last step is tucking the front side into the flap.
These lines that were left in the photos shows how you get a perfect placement each and every time instead of
guessing where to place everything.

Here is a picture of the two sizes, the Default and the
Narrow version. Having two sizes gives you an option of candy choice and the printed amount.

The Default 2.00 wide x 5.00 high will give you 8
mintbooks per page.

The Narrow 1.55 wide x 5.00 high will give 10
mintbooks per page.

By choosing File, then Properties and changing all the margins to 0 and the horizontal and vertical gaps to 0
you will get 10 per sheet.

Here is a picture of a full size sheet of the narrow
mintbooks and how it looks after printing.

If using a border, cut evenly between the borders. My
personal settings are 0.12 for top and left side, 0 for gaps, however, if you need a space until gaining more accuracy in cutting, set the horizontal and vertical gaps to 0.05 or less which gives you a space in-between to see where you need to cut.

If not using a border, you can have the WC software print a red line border for cutting ease by choosing File, then Properties, and checking the Print Border option. Only what is within the red border on your screen will print.

This sounds more difficult than it really is. After making a few of them, you will find that this little favor will become
a favorite in your product line. They are ideal as business card favors, with your information and logo to pass out to potential customers as a way of advertising, plus showing one of your products. They make cute baby shower
favors, elegant wedding favors with matching bars or other candy items, sprinkled into bouquets or baskets.

Another option is using two Andes Mints, into the Default mintbook favor, as the width accommodates these mints and the thickness of the Andes Mints, and suggest putting a staple into the flap.

Double side tape works the best for attaching these
Andes Mints to the inside.

By increasing the dimensional size it will give you a cover for Jolly Rancher or Charms lollipops & suckers. These sucker covers are adorable novelty favors when using a photo of someone on the front cover. But, that is another instructional page on lollipop covers…

Reverse the design, punch two micro holes on the top flap, add a ribbon with the ends angle cut and you now have a new look for a wedding or baby shower or birthday favor.

The lines for guide placement for these mintbooks are as follows using your WC ruler guide in the software:
0-3 either blank or contact info (tucks into flap)
4-19 for front text and/or graphics
22-44 for back text and/or graphics
Between 19 & 22 would be your top fold area

Sample pictures of the individual Lifesavers that you would need and can be purchased from any Wal Mart, or any discount/grocery stores.

This was used for an outdoor activity where chocolate would not have been appropriate because of the summer temperature. Good luck and happy mintbook making...
